Frequently
Asked questions of The Freedom Soccer Club
FSC is the travel soccer program representing our area of Carroll County, with over 27 teams competing in last year’s fall season. Freedom soccer club is expanding for the upcoming 2003 fall season. Teams will be fielded that will participate in the Maryland State Cup, premier leagues such as Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS), National Capitol Soccer League (NCSL), Baltimore Beltway Soccer league (BBSL), and other leagues such as Maryland premier Soccer League (MPSL), Central Maryland Short Sides League (CMSSL), and the Carroll County Soccer League (CCSL). Additionally, teams will compete in various tournaments throughout the season.
Teams
are formed after an open tryout selection process.
This means that all “spots” on a team are available.
Tryouts are conducted for the specific age group with players being
selected for the Club’s Premier Team, Classic Team, or for placement within
the Freedom Optimist Soccer program. The
selection process involves the coaches from both the Premier and Classic Teams
along with independent evaluators completing a standardized, objective analysis
of each player’s skills. Players
will be notified with the results of their tryout, at the end of June.
Players are encouraged to try out, even if they were not selected to a
team the previous year.
There
is no cost to try out. Each team
builds it’s own budget for the season based on the expenses for uniforms,
equipment, referee fees, tournament and league fees.
These costs can be reduced by soliciting sponsors, and through team
fundraisers. The coach will provide
each player with a proposed budget. You
may request information on historical costs from any coach.
Practice
is generally held two hours, two nights a week, for most of the season.
Teams usually play one game per weekend.
Most leagues play the majority of their games on either
Saturday or Sunday. Tournaments
involve additional time.
Travel
distance varies by team. Some teams
play exclusively in Carroll County, but many involve travel within the Baltimore
area and surrounding regions.
No, players may participate in only one program at a time.
